Using Video Brief

Plainly written, and short enough to actually read.

What this is

Video Brief reads the captions of a public YouTube video and produces a summary with timestamps. It is run by one person on their own hardware. Treat it as a useful tool rather than an institution.

What you can expect

The service is provided as it is, without any warranty. Summaries are generated by a language model and will sometimes be wrong. Every section keeps the timestamp range it came from precisely so a claim can be checked against the moment it came from, and you should check anything that matters. Do not rely on a summary for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.

There is no uptime guarantee. Summaries depend on YouTube, on a model running on a single machine, and on a home internet connection, any of which can be unavailable.

Content

Videos and their captions belong to whoever made them. A summary is our description of material we do not own, and nothing here transfers any rights in the original video. Only public videos are supported. If you own a video and want summaries of it removed, write to us and we will remove them.

Fair use of the service

Rate limits apply, and they exist because one summary occupies a single graphics card for around a minute. Do not automate against the service, resell access, or try to work around the limits. Traffic doing that may be blocked without notice.

Ending it

There is nothing to cancel: no accounts, no subscription, nothing stored about you beyond the short-lived records described in the privacy page. We may block traffic that is abusing the service.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top says when they last did.

A support address has not been published yet. If you are reading this and something is wrong, the person who invited you to Video Brief is the fastest route.
